🔬 Health Protocol & Fecal Test Update

As part of our standard protocol, we ran a fecal test at our vet clinic, which came back clear on all but a parasite called Giardia. Our veterinarian has prescribed Secnidazole for treatment. The puppies are not showing any symptoms, but it’s very common for puppies to carry parasites at this age, which is why we always screen before they go home.

If anything is detected, we ensure it’s treated appropriately. Even if your puppy’s test is currently clear, it’s important to continue with a regular deworming and parasite prevention schedule after they come home. Also, be sure to wash hands and clean up puppy stools promptly. We use a 32-part water to 1-part bleach mix in a spray bottle to clean up after the puppies.

We will be sending home the fecal test results. Let your vet know the puppies have had a fecal test. It's not necessary to retest the puppies because Giardia will show up on the fecal test for weeks or even months once they have tested positive, even if the parasite has cleared.

Also, please note the medication can cause loose stool, so we recommend giving a good probiotic daily. Gastro Pro Plus is a great option from PawTree and we will be sending some home in the wag bag (it was also recommended in your puppy order).
